Hobart and Bruny Island Eco Experience

On arrival in Hobart, collect your vehicle and make your way to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore Hobart at your leisure.

Visit the Mona (Museum of Old & New Art), Australia’s largest privately-owned museum. Wander through the unique architecture and galleries that house a range of ancient, modern and contemporary art, enjoy a meal at the Source Restaurant or take in some wine tasting at the Moorilla Cellar Door.

Jump in your car and take the 30-minute drive up to the summit of Mount Wellington. From the lookout, you can see over Hobart, Bruny Island and the Tasman Peninsula. There are a number of bushwalking tracks to follow, including the Pipeline Track to Silver Falls or the Lenah Valley Track to Sphinx Rock.

In the evening, stroll along Hobart’s famous waterfront to Salamanca Place to enjoy dinner in one of the many restaurants overlooking the harbour.

In the morning enjoy a leisurely 30-minute scenic drive to Kettering where you will board the SeaLink ferry for the short 15-minute crossing to Bruny Island. The ferries depart regularly throughout the day, and your ticket allows you to choose whichever time is suitable for you.

Bruny Island is renowned for its natural beauty and unspoiled wilderness – a large portion of the island is comprised of South Bruny National Park and State Forest Reserves. There are many walking trails to explore, from the Cloudy Bay Lagoon walk to the loop track around the Labillardiere Peninsula, there is sure to be one that takes your fancy.

On your way to your accommodation, stop and take the boardwalk up to Truganini Lookout at the Neck (the sandbar that joins the North and South islands), where you will be provided with incredible 360° views over Adventure Bay.

Stop at the Adventure Bay General Store to stock up on any last-minute supplies before making your way to your boutique environmental accommodation at 43 Degrees.

This evening, head to Hotel Bruny in Alonnah for dinner, where you can enjoy some fresh local seafood or your typical pub favourite! With a focus on local premium products, the hotel offers sensational views and is only a 20-minute drive from Adventure Bay.

Besides its remarkable wilderness and walking trails, Bruny Island is fast becoming known for its great selection of locally grown and handcrafted food, wine, beer and more. You could easily spend the day meeting the locals, learn about their stories and sample their range of delicacies. Choose to take your own car, or if you would prefer to enjoy the day on a tour, one of our Travel Specialists will be able to find the most suitable tour for you.

Stop at the Raspberry Farm for morning tea and scones, or if chocolate and whisky is more your thing, then a visit to the Bruny Island Chocolate Company is very much needed.

Next head to Australia’s most southern vineyard, Bruny Island Premium Wines, Cider & Grill, where you can sample their wines and cider, and enjoy a paddock to plate lunch. From here it is just a short 30-minute drive to either the Lighthouse where you can join a tour of the historic site or stop for photos of the coastline on the iconic Cloudy Bay Beach.

This morning enjoy a stroll along the beach at Adventure Bay, before packing up and heading north, taking in any of the sights and attractions you have missed. There are still a few cellar doors and farm gates to be found on your leisurely drive back to Roberts Point for your ferry back to the mainland.

Stop at Bruny Island Honey for tastings and a chance to purchase their “liquid gold” or continue straight to the Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co to enjoy samples from their range of artisan cheese, craft beers, preserves and relishes.

The Get Shucked Oyster Farm & Oyster Bar is a perfect spot for lunch, where you can experience the “bay to bar” dining in their fully licensed oyster bar. And if you are running out of time, or wanting to fit in a last-minute walking trail, they do sell boxes of freshly shucked oysters to go!

Only 3kms from the ferry terminal, the Bruny Island House of Whisky could be your last stop on the island, offering an extensive collection of purely Tasmanian single malts and gins for tastings. Their award-winning bar offers an intimate environment with an open fire, stunning water views and passionate staff, making it a perfect way to finish your time on the island.
