Day 3 - Free day in Darwin

Today you may like to explore Darwin’s waterfront precinct, with its many shops and restaurants, or perhaps head further out and discover the beauty of Kakadu or Litchfield National Parks. See Indigenous rock paintings or join a billabong cruise in Kakadu. Or for the more adventurous, you may like to watch crocodiles leap into the air for food, on a “jumping crocodile” cruise.

Day 4 - The Ghan Expedition (L, D)

This morning depart Darwin, enjoy lunch as you travel, and arrive into Katherine in the early afternoon. Choose to cruise Nitmiluk Gorge, admiring the large rock formations that tower over the calm water. Home to the Indigenous Jawoyn people, you may prefer to join an art cruise of the Gorge learning about the interpretations of the rock art dating back 40,000 years. A third option is the Katherine Outback Experience where you will be entertained by horse and working dog demonstrations, live music and amusing bush tales.

Day 5 - The Ghan Expedition (B, L, D)

This morning you’ll be greeted by a view of the spectacular Red Centre, and a full day of excursions await you in Alice Springs. Visit Simpsons Gap, a magical spot where flora, fauna and Indigenous culture all come together, or join a town tour and learn about the history of Alice Springs, the Royal Flying Doctors and the School of the Air. Then it’s on to the Desert Wildlife Park, where you will enjoy lunch, and free time to explore this native wildlife park. This evening enjoy dinner under the stars at the historic Telegraph Station.

Day 6 - The Ghan Expedition (B, L, D)

From your morning stop at Manguri, venture into the weird and wonderful opal mining town of Coober Pedy, where you can join a tour and see how the residents live underground. Dinner is served back on the train as your journey continues south.

Day 7 - Arrive Adelaide (B)

Enjoy a leisurely brunch as you prepare for your mid-morning arrival into Adelaide. After checking in to your hotel, you may like to wander around and soak up the atmosphere of the popular Adelaide Central Markets, or this evening, head down to Rundle Street to choose from one of the many busy restaurants serving up delicious meals.

Overnight: Mercure Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide or similar

Day 8 - Kangaroo Island (L)

Early this morning you will be transferred to Cape Jervis to board the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Highlights of your day’s touring include Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, an Inflight Birds of Prey Display at Raptor Domain, and the chance to walk amongst wild Australian sea lions at Seal Bay. At the end of the day you will be dropped off at your hotel, where you can enjoy dinner before turning in for the night.

Overnight: Ozone Hotel or similar

Day 9 - Kangaroo Island (B, L)

Another full day of touring the island today, including a visit to Flinders Chase National Park. Here you will get to walk around Remarkable Rocks, and take the boardwalk down to Admirals Arch. Return to Adelaide by ferry and coach, arriving late this evening.

Overnight: Mercure Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide or similar, 2 nights

Day 10 - Free day in Adelaide

Why not take in one of Adelaide’s stunning wine regions today. There are daily tours that operate to the Barossa, taking in a selection of wineries and somewhere delicious for lunch. If you prefer to follow your own wine trail, you could always hire a car and head up to the Adelaide Hills and sample their crisps whites. Or if a bold shiraz is more your style, McLaren Vale is only a 45 minute drive south of the city.

Day 11 - Adelaide to Melbourne

Today there is time for any last minute shopping or sightseeing, before flying back to Melbourne.
